Full Circle Launch

Foothold Cymru, a West Wales based social justice charity, has embarked on a visionary undertaking, unveiling the Full Circle/Cwblhau'r Cylch project to propel Llanelli towards becoming Wales's inaugural Zero Waste town.

The initiative, funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, is set to empower both the community and local businesses, fostering sustainable choices, waste reduction, and collaborative efforts to attain the Zero Waste town status.

Aligned with the Welsh Government's bold objective to eliminate landfill and incinerator usage by 2050, Full Circle/Cwblhau'r Cylch recognizes the imperative for widespread grassroots engagement across Wales to realize this ambitious target.

At its core, Full Circle/Cwblhau'r Cylch serves as a catalyst for individuals, community organisations, and businesses to unite, collectively identifying necessary changes within Llanelli and its surrounding areas. The project provides a platform for collaborative decision-making, enabling participants to determine tangible actions that will make a significant impact on their daily lives, contributing to the broader environmental cause.

Mike Theodoulou, Chief Executive of Foothold Cymru, emphasised the timeliness of this initiative, stating, "Now is the time for our community to come together to make a tangible difference to our attitude toward consumerism, waste, and the environment."

Cllr Aled Vaughn Owen, echoed this sentiment, expressing, "I see the Full Circle movement as an opportunity to galvanize our town."

The project launched in Llanelli last month, featuring community representation and speeches from Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change, and Cllr. Aled Vaughan Owen. The Full Circle/Cwblhau'r Cylch project is currently actively engaging with local businesses, individuals, and community groups. The goal is to establish a robust support network through awareness events, community resource development, and the creation of environmental support networks to guide Llanelli toward its Zero Waste aspirations.
