Second group of Young Ambassadors complete Bright Sparks 8-week training course

The second group of five Young Ambassadors has now completed their 8-week tech repair training course as part of the Bright Sparks 2 project.

The Bright Sparks 2 project seeks to empower young people to become E-waste Ambassadors through the upskilling of young people in areas of tech repair.

The training course, led by trainer James Dovey covered all elements of repair, from mobile phone screen replacement to coding and system recovery, to finding new and innovative ways to repurpose old tech that could not be repaired.

Following completion of their training course the Young Ambassadors have put their skills to good use within the community, offering free repair café events to members of the public. This service has been invaluable to many.

Repair Café Attendee said “I have been struggling with my laptop for weeks now due to malware which had corrupted my system. The Young Ambassadors were able to restore and remove all the malware and restore my laptop. This saved me a lot of money as it meant I did not have to buy a new laptop which I couldn’t afford to do.”

The Young Ambassadors have also worked to repair old tech which has been donated to the project as part of the Tech Amnesty Project. This repaired technology will be donated to members of the community in need later in the month.

The project is now recruiting Young Ambassadors to join the third training course being offered which starts in January.
