Coedcae Grow Project Celebrates 1 year Success
The Coedcae Grow Project as part of the Foothold Cymru Full Circle Project celebrated the completion of the projects first year this past week!
The project which focuses on sustainable food growth celebrated by harvesting the last of the vegetables grown this year!
This initiative uses gardening and food growing not only to teach new practical skills and connect students with nature but also to build confidence and embed an understanding of how good, nutritious food can be grown easily and affordably.
The project has quickly gained momentum. Students have shown enthusiasm, embracing the opportunity to develop practical skills in a less formal learning environment.
The project has also seen wonderful community support, including a generous donation of Merlin’s Magic compost from Cwm Environmental and offers of tools, a greenhouse, and a tool store.
The outreach continues as we build a 'friends of the project' network to ensure long-term sustainability, particularly through over holidays when the students are not able to maintain the garden.
Future plans include more educational field trips to other gardens and nature spaces as resources allow. The hope is to continue to expand the growing areas within Coedcae School grounds, with current student volunteers stepping into leadership roles.
