Bright Sparks

Today marks the start of ZERO WASTE WEEK, and we want to kick it off with a bang - launching not one, but TWO new projects focused entirely on Waste Reduction, protecting our planet, and being a COMMUNITY that leads the way in creating Green, Sustainable Futures. Together, we can change the world!
We’re happy to welcome our first new project BRIGHT SPARKS. Keep your eyes peeled, as we’ll be launching a second BIG project later in the week!

Unveiling Bright Sparks: Empowering Young People to Spark a Change in the Future of E-Waste!

Welcome to an exciting new project that's set to make a lasting impact on both the environment and the lives of young people. Introducing Bright Sparks, a groundbreaking project aimed at tackling the escalating issue of electronic waste (E-Waste) while empowering young minds to become catalysts for positive change. Bright Sparks has been funded by Virgin Media 02, and Hubbub, who have funded 10 similar projects across the UK. As the only Welsh charity to receive this funding, we are the flagship project in Wales!

Empowering Young Generations for a Sustainable Future

Bright Sparks is more than just a project – it's a movement that empowers young individuals aged 16 to 25 to take charge of their environment. Our innovative E-Waste workshop based in Llanelli provides participants with hands-on experience in assessing, disassembling, repairing, and reassembling broken and faulty tech. This not only equips them with valuable technical skills that increase employability, but also nurtures a sense of responsibility for our environment.

Beyond Repair: Responsible Recycling

We understand that not all tech can be saved. In cases where repair isn't feasible, Bright Sparks has teamed up with Good Things Foundation, to ensure that any components or materials that can be salvaged are properly recycled, minimizing the environmental impact of discarded electronics. This commitment to responsible disposal is a core pillar of our project, and we're proud to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Giving Back to the Community

The heart of Bright Sparks lies in our mission to bridge the gap between reducing E-Waste and benefiting the community. All the tech that our young people skillfully repair will be donated to local communities through pop-up events. By extending the lifespan of these devices, we're not only preventing E-Waste but also enabling access to technology for those who might not have it otherwise.

Aiming High: 100 Kilos and Beyond

Our ambitious goal for the initial phase of Bright Sparks is to save a minimum of 100 kilos of E-Waste from ending up in landfills. But why stop there? We hope to exceed this milestone and create a significant and lasting reduction in E-Waste over time. You can help us by donating any unused or broken tech you have at home! To donate, please contact Grainne Connolly at grainne@footholdcymru.org.uk or call 07961 877036

Join the Bright Sparks Movement

We invite all environmentally conscious and tech-savvy young individuals to join us in this exciting journey. Whether you're interested in learning practical skills, making a positive impact, or contributing to a more sustainable world, Bright Sparks has a place for you.
