Future Changemakers Projects Supports 'Meet the Candidate' Event in Collaboration with Carmarthenshire Youth Council
On the Thursday 12th of March in collaboration between Carmarthenshire Youth Council, Carmarthenshire County Council and Foothold Cymru a ‘Meet the Candidates’ event was held for young people aged 16-18 in the Halliwell Centre in Carmarthen.
The purpose of the event was to allow young people the chance to meet and question the candidates for the Sir Gaerfyrddin constituency in the upcoming Senedd Election in May.
The Youth Hustings event saw over 40 young people in attendance, representing schools and community groups throughout Carmarthenshire.
Candidates were questioned about important issues and allowed the young people to have a direct experience of the democratic process.
Areas of discussion included, public transport support for young people, NHS services including accessibility and waiting times, concerns over tuition fees, Immigration, Agriculture and Farming. As well as some more local and wider political issues.
The event provided the next generation of Carmarthenshire citizens the opportunity to express their opinions and use their voice for change.
An attendee from Maes y Gwendraeth school said:
"It was great to have an opportunity to speak to Senedd Candidates from all political parties. It was really interesting to get different party view on matters that are important to me."
The event was supported by our Future Changemakers team, a project dedicated to engaging young people in the political process and giving them confidence to express their thoughts on topics important to them.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the event.
